August in the Cotswolds.

We love the Cotswolds as a year round destination, but it’s never better than in the Summer. With meteorologists predicting another hot month ahead, we are looking at some of the great things to do there this August.

Get ready to become a countryside explorer at the Cotswold Farm Sunflower Festival. The vibrant floral display returns this August, providing the perfect backdrop for those essential Instagram pics and beautiful family photographs. (Throughout August)

The Elmore Chamber Music Festival is held in the historic Church of St. John the Baptist, near the banks of the river Severn in the heart of Gloucestershire. The festival showcases 3 days of wonderful classical chamber music. (04-06 August)

Outdoor cinema – but not like you’ve seen before – is coming to Cheltenham this August. The Frontier Sapiens Film Festival is the only adventure film festival of its kind in the UK. (05 August)

The Hartpury Horse Trials sees over 10,000 people come together to enjoy the sport of ‘Eventing’. Watch what is described as an ‘equestrian triathlon’ where competitors are tested over three phases including dressage, cross country and show jumping. (10-14 August)

Park Fair Great Tew is a 4-day event in the Oxfordshire countryside. Guests can expect a festival atmosphere, thanks to roaming musicians, classic fairground rides, and a schedule of interactive workshops for children and adults. (18-21 August)

Cotswold Vintage Fair is a well-established vintage fair selling decorative French & English antiques and country brocante. Set in the pretty Cotswold village of Toddington near Broadway and Winchcombe. There’s plenty of free parking, 60 stalls, light lunches and cakes. (20 August)

If we had to choose the wackiest Cotswold event this summer, this would probably be it. Head over to Burton-on-the-Water on bank holiday Monday and watch two local teams play a game of football in the river Windrush. Winding through the middle of the village this shallow flat river becomes a torrent of splashes as the match gets underway. The atmosphere is always fantastic and after the game you can enjoy a cream tea from the tea houses lining the pretty streets. (29 August)
